Unfortunately, due to lack of response, we are canceling our Cubbies literary discussion this month.  Perhaps we can get together in April.  Miss you guys.

Radical Readers Update and March books

March 2, 2009 by dlancaster

Radical Readers….I know you all have been waiting and asking….when, where, what?  We have made several attempts of getting together in January and February that didn’t pan out.  Does that mean we are over?  Absolutely not!  Here are two selections for March since we didn’t have a book selection for February.  Read one or both.  If you want to order through Mrs. Lancaster, come see her this week for more info or visit the Radical Readers blog through Mrs. Lancaster’s blog.  Link is on the right of the screen.  Without further ado, selections for March:
The latest fantasy series is knocking on our door.  Do greedy trolls, plotting witches, and mean faries float your boat?  Join Seth and Kendra as they discover a lost world where magic is all to real?  Then, Fablehaven by Brandon Mull is the book for you.  Available for $5.00 for purchase or check your local libraries. March Tab item # 30

Doesn’t sound like you or perhaps your interested in a classic?  Check out our second selection A Wrinkle in Time which is a fantasy meets Sci fi adventure as Meg discovers the confidence she needs to help her family and save the day.  This is a Newberry medal winner and one of Mrs. L’s favorites from her days in middle school.  The author is Madeline L’Engle.  It is available in our library as well as local libraries.  Also available for purchase for $7.00.  March Tab item #81

We will get together to discuss the books and share in some literary fun at Cubbies on March 26 at 3:30.  Don’t miss out.  We would love to have you even if you haven’t joined us before now.

INKHEART… Now Showing

January 22, 2009 by dlancaster

Inkheart is showing at Emerald Plantation Cinemas, when do we want to go?  The link for show times is below.  I was thinking Saturday or Sunday afternoon may work best.  Remember, Sunday is the Super Bowl.  I am not opposed to going at night if that is what the group decides.  Post your thoughts in the comments section.  Listen for the announcements.

Also, Alex has City of Ember the movie from our other November read.  What do you all think about getting together to watch it later in February.  We can meet at someone’s house or possibly watch it in the library.  Let me know.  Does anyone have a big screen at their house that wouldn’t mind hosting?

Hey guys.  As you know our selection for January is Inkheart by Cornelia Funke.  The film is scheduled to be released this month, January 23, 2009.  You can click on the link below to watch the trailor.  As soon as showtimes are listed, we will select a date to try to view at the same time and possibly meet afterwards to discuss it.  I know I will be out of town that weekend.  We will look to go the following week January 30 providing it reaches our local theatres.  There is still a wide interest in getting together for a Twilight party, so we will see what January brings.

October Update and November Literary Journey

October 24, 2008 by dlancaster

For October’s meeting…

Radical Readers will meet on Tuesday, 10-23 at Cubbies from 4-6.  Mrs. Lancaster has a new teacher/mentor meeting after school, and 4 is as soon as she can make it to Cubbies.  Some members have dance conflicts.  Please plan to participate for as long as you can like 4-4:45.  I am sure Mr. DA will not mind you arriving prior to 4 to get your food and enjoy some snacks prior to our literary discussions of The Boy Who Dared, Cracker, Magyk, and The Sea of Trolls.  The 4-6 time allows some of our sports members to participate following their practice and will not prevent those trying out for drums to miss out.  If you can stay the entire 2 hours, great, however, it is not expected for you to participate in both sessions.  Join us as your schedule allows.  We will dish about the four books in table discussion format!  See you there!

November’s Literary Journey

This month is about film review and book comparisons.  By popular demand, we selected Twilight.  The film will be released 11-21.  However, it is PG13, and we will have an alternative.  If you would like to read both books and watch both films…go for it.

For a Twilight Trailer, click on the link

Our alternative book will be City of Ember.  It was released on 10-10-08.  We will look for it in local theatres. For a City of Ember trailer, click on the link

If you need to obtain copies of the books, visit Mrs. Lancaster in Rm 27.  I will order by 10-31, so we can get our books in a timely manner.

Radical Readers Upcoming Events

September 30, 2008 by dlancaster

Some students wanted to participate but were unable to do so due to conflicts.  Coming soon, we will have a virtual discussion on Found.

Radical Readers September Reflection

September 30, 2008 by dlancaster

Wow!  What an amazing literary adventure and the shakes and fries from Cubbies didn’t hurt!  We had 20 participants in our first Radical Readers gathering.  Personally, I thought it rocked.  There was so much discussion that whole group discussion was very limited.  We really jumped into Jonah’s and Chip’s big adventure.  We made plans for the future.  Post your thoughts here.
